Stop Random Practice — Follow A Clear Learning Roadmap

Most new players jump straight into matches without targeted training, leading to slow, inconsistent improvement. This five-stage plan separates core skills step by step, with specific practice tasks, recommended AI difficulty levels and learning goals for each phase. Spend 3–7 days per stage to build solid foundational skill before advancing to harder tactics.

Stage 1: Rule & Pattern Recognition (Beginner)

Core goal: Memorize win conditions and instantly identify open three, closed three and rush four shapes.

  • Practice against Very Easy AI only; prioritize spotting threats over winning games.
  • After every move, pause and list all open lines on the board out loud.
  • Read Guide 02 and Guide 04 repeatedly to cement basic terminology.

Advance to Stage 2 once you never miss an opponent’s open four threat.

Stage 2: Defensive Priority Training (Casual Player)

Core goal: Master threat ranking and multi-purpose counter-defensive moves.

  • Play Easy and Medium AI; focus Guide 05 defensive logic every match.
  • Force yourself to block the highest-priority threat before building your own lines.
  • Challenge: Find at least one dual-purpose block per game that also extends your stones.

Advance once you rarely lose from unblocked double open three setups.

Stage 3: Offensive Double Threat Creation (Intermediate)

Core goal: Consistently build unavoidable double kill opportunities and short VCF sequences.

  • Main opponent: Medium difficulty AI; study Guide 06 double threat frameworks.
  • Rule for every turn: Search the board for intersection points that connect two separate lines.
  • Use the Hint button to compare your candidate moves against the AI’s optimal attack choices.

Stage 4: Endgame & Comeback Tactics (Advanced Casual)

Core goal: Execute clean VCF chains and recover from losing board positions.

  • Play Hard AI; combine knowledge from Guides 04, 17 and 18.
  • Train VCF forcing sequences where every opponent block extends your winning line.
  • Practice slow, patient counterplay when your rival holds center advantage.

Stage 5: Tournament Renju & Pro Evaluation (Competitive)

Core goal: Adapt to forbidden move rules and calculate multi-turn position value.

  • Challenge Expert AI; fully absorb Guide 07 forbidden rules and Guide 20 position evaluation.
  • Learn to avoid three-three and four-four violations while maintaining offensive pressure as Black.
  • Simulate full opening variations to predict opponent responses multiple steps ahead.
Training routine tip: 10–15 minutes of focused daily practice beats long unfocused weekend marathons. Consistency speeds up pattern recognition drastically.

Common Training Mistakes To Avoid

  1. Skipping defensive training to only practice attacking tactics.
  2. Jumping to Hard/Expert AI before mastering medium-tier fundamentals.
  3. Rushing matches without analyzing the board after each loss to spot your own errors.
  4. Ignoring the strategy library guides and relying only on blind gameplay experience.

Stick to the sequential stage order, and you will notice steady, measurable progress against all difficulty levels of the in-game AI.
